Default No2EU: Consigned to the dustbin of history

"After the 4 June election, this must be built on further. There are no more than 12 months to a general election, and with parliament mired in the expenses scandal, it could be called at almost any time. The voice of workers and the unrepresented millions must be heard in that election and not crowded out by 'celebrities', 'independents' with individual and limited programmes and small right-wing and other so-called anti-establishment parties.

Millions have been hit hard by the recession and Labour and Tory policies. Trade unionists are battling enormous job losses and pay cuts. Community campaigns have fought closures of services and facilities. And young people fighting for their rights, and against the BNP, need a political voice."

Contrast the hopes and dreams of the campaign prior to the Euro Elections 2009...

To the latest news that the RMT has decided to finally ditch the NO2EU campaign, even though Comrade Bob has been begging for support.

"Prospects for the “son of No2EU” coalition for the coming general election look poor. The RMT rail union Executive has voted not to back it.

"The groups which took part in the “No2EU” coalition for the Euro-elections of June 2009 - the Communist Party of Britain (Morning Star), the Socialist Party, and the Alliance for Green Socialism - have been meeting since then to try to agree on a new coalition for the general election.

RMT rail union general secretary Bob Crow has been taking part in emergency talks.

Now the RMT Executive has voted not to back the coalition. The chief reasons for this were that the RMT Executive wanted to focus RMT’s election effort on winning the re-elections of MPs in the RMT parliamentary group (all Labour) and felt there was not enough broader trade-union support for the coalition venture."

The RMT provided a substantial amount of the funding for the NO2EU project in the Euro Elections, around £75,000 in total of the £118,000 they spent in the 2009 Euro Elections. And due to the usual bickering in the Trotskyite ranks they have failed after their first outing...awwwww .

No2EU is still alive and working with Peoples Pledge. They were actually quite active before the referendum debate in the HOC
