I bet you're loved by the Labour lot down your end Paul.

An excellent result.

Will UKIP be compiling a complete list of wards where we had near misses? Might be good to see those seats we could win with a small improvement in our vote share next time round and to know which ones to target.

Paul, presumably you knock on doors in your ward. What do you say to potential voters to get such support?

We have stood in Derby Ward on three ocassions - In 2006 we took 21% 2007 we took 28% and now 38%. It is only the second time we have stood in Litherland, Molyneux and Church.

We focus on local issues - the local sports stadium closing or the lack of park-keepers in the local parks. When we can give local issues the EU angle we do: the Post Office closure, the fortnightly bin collections and Rolls Royce moving to the US which has caused job losses. Our leaflets have also been specifically targeted to each ward and we have taken up local issues across the constituency.

It is also a learning curve: in Derby ward, we won the vote on the day but lost on postal votes - we won't make that mistake again.

Thanks to UKIP Sefton for all their hard work, shame it wasn't quite enough to win a seat. I presume there were no concerns about the postal votes.

Regarding postal votes.

The final scores in my ward were:

Tory 575
Labour 187
UKIP 146
Libdem 143

After the postal votes, I was a clear second. I was pretty sure I would get 2nd place in the final outcome. This was the first time I had seen our vote relatively go backwards from the postal to the walkup.
I will have to have a think about what that means.

Well done Paul.

Some very good scores there.

Ray

Well done The targeting of local issues seems to be paying dividends. I think the common mistake seems to be relying on the anti eu theme for local elections. It can be interwoven - ie the post office closures as a point just to remind people. However it is not an Ace card in local elections.

Thats what needs to change for us during the locals claim down the EU bit! put in bits the locals can start to understand but not whack straight in the face as we have been doing and thats why some people have been put off by us.
