The vote in Chester was up on that in previous locals. We leafleted in just two out of 9 wards - areas not getting leaflets did at least as well!
As local Chairman, have sent letter to local press as follows: Sir On behalf of all our candidates I would like to thank the 2198 people across Chester who voted for UKIP in the local elections. The headline news, of course, was the spectacular wipe-out of Labour and the Lib Dems. Understandably people wanted to punish an unusually inept government, and they largely did this in the traditional way by voting for the official opposition. However, anyone voting for the Tories in the belief that they will do anything about, or even admit to, the extent to which control over our country at national or local level has been handed over to the EU bureaucracy will be disappointed. “In Europe, not run by Europe” – does anyone understand or believe that? UKIP supporters know that no administration committed to Britain staying in the EU can stop such things as ever-higher weight limits on our roads, the closure of local post offices, the break-up of our historic counties, or imposed nonsensical procedures for dealing with rubbish. As things stand we will see that it is business as usual when it comes to stealth taxes, waste, red tape and bureaucracy. Locally and nationally the UK Independence Party stands for efficient, commonsense services, the cutting of council tax, and enhancing, not dismantling, our democracy. |
