Default National Front poll many votes at London elections

I think this deserves a thread of its own. Many people do not even realise that the national front still existsFor those who don't know the BNP is a breakaway party from the National Front. I was amazed to see the National Front polled so many votes in the 5 seats it stood for on the London assembly. I suspect that many of these are simply protest votes against immigration. I must say I find these figures rather scary.

Ealing and Hillingdon Ian Edward National Front 7,939 4.49%
Lewsiham and Greenwich Tess Culnane National Front 8,509 5.70%
Bromley and Bexley Paul Winnett National Front 11,288 5.56%
South West Andrew Cripps National Front 4,754 2.48%
City & East Graham Kemp National Front 2,350 1.25%

The National Front is still more well known than the BNP even if more extreme.
In the next assembly elections the BNP should have the money to contest every first past the post seat too so the NF vote will disapear.

If the votes of the BNP, UKIP & National Front were combined into a single British Unionist allliance, would they have obtained more seats ?

Why do you seem suprised, the NF are at the moment more well known than the BNP, and with the immigration problem being top of everyone's agenda on the street, I expected the right wing parties to do better...

The BNP contested City and East and scored over 9%.
So when going head-to-head the result is obvious.

I expect the good(ish) results for the NF elsewhere will be down to people who wanted to Vote BNP but did not have a BNP candidate to vote for on the Constituency List.

These figures don't look scary. They are reasonable figures for a proxy BNP vote. Some people who voted BNP in the list voted for the Tories, ED, FEP, or UKIP in the constituency, so the NF figures are slightly lower than the level of BNP support.

And the National Front in its present existence is a breakaway from the old NF which was an amalgam of the Greater Britain Movement, the original BNP, etc, etc. All these parties are breakaways or startups. It's a bit like a dysfunctional family producing children from different fathers and more.................

UKIP, if they have any sanity, would never join such an alliance.
