Default UKIP London Mayoral Election result 2008

UKIP candidate Mr. Gerard Batten (MEP for London) got 22, 4232 candidates in the London Mayoral Election held on 1.5.2008.

Through not fault of his own (he worked hard in his campaign to be London Mayor) this is less than the number of votes UKIP got in the 2004 London Mayoral Election.

On that occasion UKIP London Mayoral Election candidate Mr. Frank Maloney (no longer a member of UKIP) got 115, 665 first preference votes (6%) and 193, 1570 second preference votes (10.10%).

The 2004 London Mayoral Election was held on the same day as the last EU Election and the issue of the EU received widespread coverage at that time with political analysts saying that the coverage helped UKIP increase its vote in the London Mayoral and Assembly Elections of 2004.

The two London Assembly members who were were initially elected as UKIP members on 10.6.2004 and who then defected to Veritas before forming the One London Party were not re-elected in the 2008 London Assembly Election.

Boris Johnson MP is the new Mayor of London with 1, 168, 738 first/second preference votes. Europhile Livingstone was defeated as Labour Mayor of London after he secured 1, 028, 966 first/second preference votes. The official declaration of the Mayoral Election result was made at 11.53 pm yesterday.

Gerrard's mistake, clearly, was his failure to insult gay people.

I think that you are being a little generous with his number of votes there, by a factor of ten

Bearing in mind voters had a second preference vote, the first preference votes for Greens BNP & UKIP are incredibly low. Instead of backing minor parties as a protest vote when it is completely electorally safe to do so, the public safely ignore them.

Only 0.9% for UKIP ! when even a core passionate EU sceptic anti Lisbon vote should have been at least 8% with 2nd preferences safely to Boris if they wanted to.

    Explain it someone.

As I've said before there are a huge mass of angry decent people out there just waiting for UKIP to come out against immigrants, homos and feminazis.

Many of us have had enough of that whingeing self-righteous mob of misfits.

UKIP wont do that, if you want to oppose them people the only party to join is BNP. Although we do not oppose 'homos' just the promotion of their lifestyle.

Congratulations to Boris. It's about time the apologizer Red Ken was kicked out. Hopefully there are some sour faces in Downing Street to boot.

Does anyone know if there is a video of Gerard's speech at the announcing of the results online (I presume he made a speech)?
"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government."

In Labour we trusted and now we are busted... again. It's the economy, stupid.
