Key points from the results of a telephone opinion poll (by Mruk Cell) published in the Sunday Times regarding the 1.5.2008 London Mayoral election:
First preference votes (opinion poll projection): Livingstone (Labour) 45% Boris Johnson MP (Conservative) 44% The Sunday Times says the second preference vote projection is even closer and that 26% of London voters have not yet decided how to vote. Boris Johnson MP had 13% a lead over UKIP-hating europhile Livingstone two weeks ago. The similarities between Johnson and Livingstone are far greater than the differences between them. Pity that all attention is paid to the minimal difference in electoral support for each of them rather than the minimal differences in their policies which demonstrates, once again, that one cannot put a cigarette paper between New Labour, the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats on the major issues of the day, and why the electorate of London only really have one choice, i.e., to vote ...
