The press are concentrating on Gordon Brown's position as Prime Minister at this time after local election defeats for his party last week: but what about committed europhile Clegg - leader of that political arm of the EU in the UK who call themselves the Liberal 'Democrats'?
Under Clegg's so-called leadership his party last week got 1% less of the national projected vote than his party secured a year earlier under the leadership of Sir Menzies Campbell (who was removed for not leading his party to election successes). The Liberal 'Democrats' got their worst local election results vote share for a decade on 1.5.2008 with Clegg as their leader. Labour had an excuse for not doing well last in last week's local/London elections: they are in power and have made many mistakes (not that they are admitting that they have caused the problems voters are rightly complaining about). But what is europhile Clegg's excuse for his party's worst local election performance in 10 years? Last edited by Britannist; 09-05-2008 at 04:09 PM. |

I'd be rejoicing, if it wasn't for the fact the Tories are on the up and the worst of them all.

No Labour are by far the worst. Excessive 'tax and spend' coupled with gross authoritarianism and incompetency.

Nulabour are the Tories-lite. There are good parts of the Tories and terrible parts whereas labour is today just mediocre. In general the Tories are worse however.

That is a pretty meaningless sentence but even if it were true popularity is not everything and putting the word europhile before something doesn't necessarily make it beyond help.

Being sympathetic to the pro-EU Liberal 'Democrats' - a curious position for you to hold since you claim to be anti-EU. The unpleasant and opportunistic Liberal 'Democrats' are the most pro-EU party in the House of Commons. And I repeat: down at the House of Commons they are widely despised by most of those in most other parties holding seats there. Last edited by Britannist; 12-05-2008 at 01:42 PM. |
