Default Lib Dems: Figures show dangers facing troops in Basra - Moore

From the official website:

Figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats have revealed the intensity of fighting around Basra Airport in recent months.
The statistics, which came from a Parliamentary Question asked by Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, Michael Moore MP, show that there were 323 attacks on British troops stationed at Basra Airport in the five months from April to August this year. In the previous five months there were 64 attacks.
Commenting, Michael Moore said:
"These figures show that, whatever Gordon Brown tells us about a new ‘overwatch’ role for our forces in Iraq, British troops are still the target of insurgent attacks and that their continued presence in Basra is putting lives in unnecessary jeopardy.

"It is clear that there is no military benefit to be gained from the continued presence of our armed forces in Iraq and it is time that the Government implement a full withdrawal of our forces."
