Commenting on David Cameron’s proposals on stamp duty, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable MP said: "David Cameron is not addressing the real issue. "The reason stamp duty is unfair is that people who are buying houses in the middle range, or lower range in London and the South East, are paying 3% on the full value of the house - for a £250,000 property that’s £7500 stamp duty. This is the real injustice of the system and one that the Conservative proposals do not begin to tackle. "By contrast, the Liberal Democrat propose to make stamp duty genuinely progressive; cutting stamp duty on lower value property by increasing it on very valuable property." More... |
