From the BBC website: Sir Menzies' chief of staff, MP Norman Lamb, told reporters: "It is not a bribe, it is an incentive. We are a democratic party. We are saying to people if you select an ethnic minority or woman candidate you will get access to this fund."

This is not democracy for pities sake. It is dictatorship over the party through bribery. The best person for the job should be the one who gets it regardless of sex, skin colour religion or any other factor. The sooner positive discrimination is thrown out the window the better.

Wow, positive discrimination. What a great first step to losing again! Person A, no you can't represent our constituency, because we get a bunch of fivers if we vote for Person B.

If I were to start a political party in which i paid local associations to select white people over ethnic minorities I would expect myself to be in court over racism charges. (quite rightly too.) Why can people get away with it if they do the opposite

"a plan for extra funds to be offered to local Lib Dem parties who recruit women and ethnic minority candidates."

Discrimination is Discrimination whatever positive spin you put on it. The best candidate gets overlooked for an ethnic minority female as the area will get extra funds that way! When will these parties realise that discrimination is unacceptable?

Positive discrimination in the choice of candidate backed by financial incentives. Apart from being morally suspect, this also raises the interesting practical question - will constituencies selecting an Asian woman in a wheelchair get three times the money? It's beginning to look like another spoilt ballot paper again.

It hardly matters what the Lib Dems tax plans are, does it ? They have about as much chance of being in government as my cat, so you may as well ask it what it’s tax plans are for all the good it will do.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! What sort of country do we live in where we financially encourage Racism and Sexism. I find this fairness by force intolerable, If women and ethnic minorities do not feel the sysem is inviting then change the sysem do not discriminate against White males as what recently happened in Wales. If you try and control these matters then we could lose some decent politicians as a result of a gender and ethnic quota. I strongly support Women and Ethnic minorities entering the political system as I feel it will help to build on what is for me the most ethnically diverse country.
