was it intentional or just failed policy?
The EU and globalism in general had a big influence, and Labour officials have admitted that uncontrolled mass-immigration was used to intentionally attack the working class by forcing wages down, which brought the whole country down so other countries can compete in the euro zone and beyond. It also forced a dependency on foreign imports, which makes it almost impossible to be self-sufficient.
As far I can see, Labour/Tory/LibDems are all guilty of treason one way or another. However, it was expected from the Tories, but Labour was supposed to be a working class party before it sold out to the middle-class champaign socialists who despise the working class. Any true working-class movement gets attacked by creepy anti-fash, who directly support the take down of this country.
I agree with rebirth. It was certainly deliberate, and I think there were a number of reasons, a deisre for the global melting pot ideology to be put into practice one of them (the anti upper class middle classes who make up the 'champagne socialist' Nulabour party, and Lib Dems have never liked the working class and find cuddly brown and black - especially black- exotics a far more loveable 'worthy' cause).
The Labour Government who actually followed through with this had rather more pragmatic reasons, as rebirth said to hold wages down, Gordon brown boasted on Newsnight that immigration was preventing 'wage inflation'), a desire to increase the Labour vote (80% of immigrants vote Labour) , and I believe the opening up to the A8 was a deal struck by Tony to get support from the new Eastern European countries for invasion of Iraq. He went ona whistle stop tour drumming up their support, which he got, and they must have asked for something in return. Soon after that Britain was the only major EU economy not to apply transitional restrictions on the A8s right to work here.
However with hindsight this ha sbeen going ona long time, all the PC c@rp and discrimination in favour of foriegners, all the pushing of foreigners into positons of power etc, which makes me think it might be rather mor eof a long term conspiracy than just the actions of Nulabour. But who knows?

The huge increases in migrants over the last decade were partly due to a politically motivated attempt by ministers to radically change the country and "rub the Right's nose in diversity", according to Andrew Neather, a former adviser to Tony Blair, Jack Straw and David Blunkett.
He said Labour's relaxation of controls was a deliberate plan to "open up the UK to mass migration" but that ministers were nervous and reluctant to discuss such a move publicly for fear it would alienate its "core working class vote".
As a result, the public argument for immigration concentrated instead on the economic benefits and need for more migrants.
Critics said the revelations showed a "conspiracy" within Government to impose mass immigration for "cynical" political reasons.
Mr Neather was a speech writer who worked in Downing Street for Tony Blair and in the Home Office for Jack Straw and David Blunkett, in the early 2000s.

Absolutely intentional .. it was a ~3m unvetted mass influx of immigrants during Labour's terms of office .. & done without proper vetting from some of the biggest dungheap countries around ... and also to gerrymander districts and to "rub the tories faces in diversity". This was a massive betrayal against their voting base, who had foolishly voted for a party that had changed beyond all recognition.

The myth that the Labour Party has the interests of the working class at heart really is a most remarkable and enduring sophestry. It hasn't be true for years - probably not since before the births of the majority of voters. That Labour are still able to command several million votes on the back of a historical stance long since abandoned shows only the power of marketing and the inertia of public opinion.
if that is the horrific truth, I feel ashamed that i ever voted for them

Net immigration per year under Labour was about 230,000
Since the Tories have come to power, net immigration has increased.
Yes we do have open borders and a free for all.
