Labour (of which, of course, the europhile Corbett is a member) are more worried about the potential success of UKIP than they are letting on publicly.

At the last EU Election and the last London Mayoral/Assembly election (both held on the same day), UKIP cut heavily into the Labour vote in London, the 'east' Midlands of England and across the south-east of England.

In some UK Westminster Parliamentary constituencies in the 'east' Midlands (at the last EU Election) UKIP matched the Labour vote.

Labour are nervous that UKIP could match the Labour vote again - or even beat them in many parts of the country at some point in the future.

The sooner the better.
