Gordon Brown" can still beat David Cameron even if he lances the boil of Iraq" says an article in today's europhile and pro-Labour Guardian:

Britannist adds: Labour got 35.9% of the vote at the last General Election. The Liberal Dims increased their vote by 5% to 23% as they won the anti-Iraq war protest vote. If Labour can get back that 5% lost to the Liberal Dims they will increase their share of national support at the next General Election to about 41%.
The Cameron-led Conservatives need to be well ahead of Labour just to match the number of seats Labour has in the Commons (due to an unfair electoral map working against the Conservatives).
