Default This bloke is even more cynical than me!

Today, it is perfectly possible for a government to get into power - and to stay there indefinitely - simply through winning the votes of people who make no contribution to society.
So many millions of people now receive state benefits, and are wholly dependent upon the government for their income, that a political party which is prepared to pander to them, in order to win their votes, while at the same time ignoring the needs and rights of those who work and pay tax, could stay in power for years.
I believe that Blair and his government are so discredited that it is impossible to believe that anyone dcould have voted for them for any other reason.
Do you agree with this? Do you really think that New Labour has deliberately expanded the dependency culture for electoral reasons?

It is true, as long as there is no opposition party for the majority of people who still don't rely on the state to keep them in clover, but actually have to pay for this system.

Blair won with just over 1 in 5 of people who could vote. That's actually under the amount of people now heavily reliant on the state, so some are lost via apathy and true principle.

The most damning part of this is that no opposition party can pull together the 2 in 5 needed to trump this. I believe if the Tories had remained true to their old values and provided real opposition, then they would have romped it at the last election. Too many people realise they are all the same now, so we are in the state of flux, where everyone is trying to work out what to do.

I have no problem accepting Vernon Coleman's arguement. He's an angry man all right (as evidenced at the Telford conference).

I share his anger.

Sometimes I wish I had taken the blue pill and remained in blissful ignorance, but I took the red one and there is no going back.
