It's going to hard for 'Tony' Bliar later this year when he does quit.
The 'phone will ring less, the invitations will start to dry up. The offers of free holidays will lesson. People he thought were friends will "be too busy". His friends at the BBC will call less. There will be more bills and less about politics in his postbag. He will see his name mentioned less in the newspapers. When he turns on his television to escape boredom he will see the face of his successor Gordon Brown staring back at him on some news programme. If Labour have problems, Blair will find that he is being blamed for them. The 'poisoned chalice of the Blair legacy' they will say. Many of his contacts around the world - leaders, Heads of State, Kings, Queens, Foreign Secretaries, top diplomats will retire and disappear from the scene. He may even bump into members of the younger generation who have either never heard of him or say "are you that bloke who started the war with Iraq". Not much for him to look forward to  . But who cares    . |
