Aye mate I can imagine. Governments like the idea of a large pool of money somewhere and their donators like the idea of large open markets for them to get without any hassle. I was surprised that the government in London didn't put up much of a fight when their people rejected the Euro! Good on ye I say.

Can see your point in many respects.

But if we all stick together it will be a lot sooner that we can all go back to happily dissagreeing with each other.

Take Britain and France we've all been happy disliking each other for hundreds of years.

Welcome, Alliance. Good to have you.

I spent much of my childhood in the Republic of Ireland and my parents lived there until recently.

Welcome Alliance - good to have you here - we might need your help if the worst comes to the worst. I have been trying to encourage everyone to learn this, but with little success.

I have a friend who moved back to S Ireland six years ago. He predicted the countries downfall after the huge growth due to the EU billions.

An economy dependent on house and land inflation couldn't last and now he says the place is full of unsold new homes and helicopters for sale.

Default The Isles

Welcome Alliance, thanks for your support.

There was some talk of a 'Council of the Isles' (would it have included the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man?), but I don't think that anything came of it.

Unfortunately, the politicians we have over here are ghastly, and you would be well advised not to get entangled with them.

Do you really want to take the money and run?

Alliance> Welcome aboard.

I'm all for a council of the isles. I'm personally in favour of an independent England. I like the idea of a trade federation between England, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Channel isles and the North and South of Ireland.
However I think each country should have it's own parliament and run it's own economies, foreign affairs etc.
Some form of Federation with the Council of the Isles acting as a point where we can discuse issue that effect us all would be a great idea though.

Was over in Ireland recently and enjoyed my stay very much, shame my friends over there though are pro-EU .

I cannot understand why the Irish are so in awe the EU when the impact of the Euro has had such devastating results for the prices of basic commodities, or at least, according to a friend of mine who travels to Ireland (south) 3-4 times a year and is forever moaning about the costs of various merchandise over there.

Anyhow, a Council of the Isles would surely be better than the present arrangement?

Agree. Eventually independent nations would form an alliance. Far better than any alliance with the EU but not closed to further self directed cultural and commercial and even miltary alliances of like minded European nation states. That really would be liberty in living example. With the prospect of secondary type alliances with certain foreign nation states concerning trade and good will.
