I am an altruist. Some of us are born that way. We do things because we want to and we do not expect or overtly desire anything in return. This may seem foolish to some, especially if you are a "cash down beforehand payment" type of trader, but I do not fit into any of these categories of supply and demand. And I'm not a fool. Although many false altruists are fools. Liberals are false altruists and many liberals are fools. This is not meant as an insult as many Liberals are devoted to the "greater good" but then it is too difficult to define the "greater good". It is hard enough to define "good".
I don't believe anyone who is reasonable thinks immigration in itself is "bad". I think that when something like immigration is used by others as a force of change and by default a force of destruction so an extant system may be altered without the necessary choice of the people then we are naturally dealing in a kind of "evil" and a sort of fascism. If Akria is 16 then he or she is a savant and it is marvellous to have one live and in our midst. If Akria is merely pretending to be 16, then the circus canon awaits ye. It isn't fair to imitate youth and then infuse it with the wisdom of years. But if you are a natural Akria, then you are fortunate, but will still have to go to that horrible place that is the school of hard knocks as this is what makes us all what we eventually become. It is the light of the soul of each individual that makes all the difference after graduation. ![]() |

It can only truly be considered altruism if their truly is no return for the investment, yours is a fulfilment of desire.

Maybe, just maybe, most Britons expect National Insurance contributions to be paid correctly. This wouldn't be a black economy matter, would it now? The Tape Worm Land where some people still expect to receive all the benefits of retirement and healthcare without having to contribute their proper share. Of course, if these were real tapeworms nobody would object to some purging to make the body healthy again, would they?

No, you are wrong about me, I am not fulfilling any desire. I am not selfish at all. You must realise that a few people on earth are altruists. They cannot help being born this way. I want a return if returns are part of a business transaction, such as quality for money or good service, etc. If someone hits out at me they can expect a clobbering. If I am insulted, I usually repay bullies in return. This is because I am aggressive when taunted. However, my altruism is another matter. I will give something to someone or make sure they are okay, support them or stick up for them if I want to and that want is not motivated by any need for a return. The person does not have to know I exist. That really is altruism. It is odd, I know, and most people are self oriented and brutally so, but I am not. I can't help that. I am part of a small group of human freaks.

It's The Rolling Stones that get no satisfaction. This kind of altruist doesn't seem to need satisfaction for these acts. I get satisfaction from a job well done, but an act of benevolence isn't in that category for me. I like to think people do benefit, but I don't expect them to owe me that. They owe me nothing. I do something if I want to and I'm motivated by a particular kind of compassion.
Some altruists need to know what happens to their beneficiaries and some need to feel good about what they do in the sense that they like to feel rewarded. They like to feel they have joined in or up to the cause, etc. And they need a bit of fame and fortune to accompany this or they feel it isn't worth it. That is normal human behaviour as humans are materialists living in a basically materialist world where the richest and the cleverest and the most beautiful are deemed best on a scale of values and "goodness" ranks up there with these materialist necessities with some charitable folk. A small group do not need to feel satisfaction or get a reward. This isn't a bloodless kind of altruism, it is the kind that operates from what I have come to think of as intelligent compassion. I will give someone a break if I can. I would like to be given a break myself but know from experience that this seldom happens and when it does the recipients often forget who gave it to them. I don't mind what they do with the break as it would be freely given by me. If they ruined their chances by being thoughtless or plain stupid, then that would be their own fault. But I would have given them the break. I am not in a position to be annoyed if they make a muck of it. I will be very pleased if they succeed because I like to see people believe in themselves and the future. For me this is enough and I donlt need anything in return. If I get something in return it may be a gift. Gifts are good. But one must never believe that one gift necessitates another or you plunge yourself into the obligatory position. One should never be obliged. One often is in our world, but I try not to force people into this. I prefer to allow whatever seed I may drop to germinate if it can and if a great tree results then this is the reward, but it isn't a personal kind of reward. I would be happy instead because the recipient had thrived. If no extended positivity resulted I would be regretful. Because these seeds can concatenate events and people can light one fire from another and stay inside their circle of success if they have the knack of understanding just how much potential energy lies in one little seed. But there has to be the seed first. |

The jobs of which I speak?
Well, were I able to despite my disabilities then yes, given no other option I would. As it is, though, I have rather higher aims in life.

If you want to see it like that then yes.
Although I would contest that there is a difference between not doing a job you deign to be below you and simply preferring a better job - in my case that of a university lecturer.
