Very good. Your knowledge of local Australian subjects (and of medieval literature) is heartening. Allow me to try to settle your questions. Sword or swordsman? A Roland for Oliver's sword: a brightly lit sword or blade (only I'm not lit as often as I would like). Bruce or Sheila? A Bruce; otherwise known as Paul. It is of course a myth that every second male in this country is called Bruce: it's every third male; and every fourth male is a Brian. It's good to see that there are devotees here of that mightily impressive broadcaster Frank Whalen; I haven't had time to listen to this link to a record of his programme, but I will. And the CAC Boomerang certainly brings back memories of that great Australian aircraft designed by Messrs Wackett and David. (The then Mr Wackett DFC was full of good ideas on aircraft design, such as the Boomerang and the CAC Wirraway, the 'Wackett Wirraway'; but he bore an unfortunate name for an aircraft designer: 'We'll just whack it in here', 'Just whack it in where you can, boys', etc. Fortunately for the later Sir Lawrence Wackett and his interlocutors, his knighthood obviated the need for him to be addressed by his unusual, and the unkind would say comical, surname.) The Boomerang also reminds me of how the Australian government allowed the country's industrial base, built up in a flurry of development during the war years, to run down through the course of the 1950s and 60s, the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC), builders of the Boomerang and several other aircraft, was a good example of that. By the 1970s it was only a ghost of what it could have been--and should have been. However I digress; I won't get into that; I'll only fly into a fury of regret. Anyway, many thanks for the welcome, troops.

PS. I have a question: when I log in to this forum site under my user name, the system accepts everything as all right but fails to log me in; I have to log in a second time, and on that occasion the log-in takes and I can get in. Why do I have log in twice to get in to these forums?

I've had that issue as well - it's nothing personal or anti-antipodean (from our perspective, of course!)

I found that if I log in using the login link in the box at the top right hand corner, I had more chance of only logging in once...

Over to Anthony on this one.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

I notice Australia has its own mini-insurgency.

It seem that in the town of Bourke (Burke?) in NSW the youth has the town locked down at night and the doctors just quit.
The locals won't come out at night - the kids reign.
Rocks, sticks, stones, missiles they find to throw... arson. assault.
As young as eight and ten...

Total population is 3500 people with 40 cops... and not a single solution between them.

The news left no doubt it's because they're black but actually, most look half caste and they're all really just Australians, given a label and told to wear and like it by the racists that think that is an answer. All states suggest taking all the kids into state custody...

Hmm ... the conspiracy theorist in me asks: "if they remove this generation of children (for their own good of course) - it leaves open the mining lands for 'foreign exploitation'... does it not?"

What is the point of what you've written here? Is this your way of saying that as far as you're concerned, I am unwelcome on this forum as I am an Australian. I do not understand the purpose of what you have written.

You are welcome here. I don't understand why Intbel wrote either.

I like foreign input one of this countries (and UKIP's problems) is that we ignore what happens in other countries and do not copy what works well in for example Australia. One example UKIP want Australian style immigration policies but we never say that all we want is the same as many other countries - if we did it would be harder for people to accuse us of racism.

Thanks, David. Australia's immigration policies have had mixed success here. Some target migrant groups here have worked out well and have been economically and socially effective and productive, others not. Most people who immigrate here like it and enjoy a quality of life that would be impossible in their countries of origin. Some, too many, abuse it. Accusations of racism don't worry many of us, and we aren't sensitive to them, because basically we know we aren't racists in any serious sense of the word. At times, even refusing entry to known and convicted criminals from foreign parts, for example, has had the lunatic left up in arms accusing the government and other elements within Australian society of being racists. But the lunatic left is definitely not representative of Australians and the ones wildly accusing everyone else of racism are so thoroughly discredited that they can be and are successfully ignored. Like many things in this world, immigration is a balance; and we as a people try to achieve that balance. Anyway that's enough from me. As I said in my first post, I'm here more as an observer than a contributor and to learn what I can, even if I ask the occasional question on matters pertaining to British politics and the UKIP's part in them. Thanks, again.
