Default Winston has a lot to answer for

Or maybe his idea of a united Europe with the UK as the overseeing non-participating father was right after all...........

No, I still think he was wrong and that the UK should tread it's own path.

The most amazing thing is that in the early 1990's I was more than sufficiently enthusiastic in the European model. So enthusiastic that I spent a year at Exeter University reading for my Masters Degree in European Law.

By 2004 all that had changed and in the same year I joined UKIP.

I've read somewhere on this forum that UKIP is far from perfect and this is undoubtedly true. The unfortunate thing is that if UKIP is ever going to be more than a side show and an also ran it has to be perfect. It has to start acting like a mainstream political party and less like a party already convinced of it's own defeat.

Oh.....Hello......first post.

Welcome aboard. I agree Winston was wrong about a United States of Europe, but at least he was right that the UK should never be a part of it!

Hi TBP and welcome, whereabouts are you now?

Let's hope the new Chairman's objective quoted in his press release is a sign of things to come -

Quote:
building an attractive and credible alternative 'Independence' party with a full range of policies
Hopefully the forthcoming NEC elections will produce an NEC which will drive the party in that directon.

I see a great wealth of knowledge on this Forum as well as the intellect needed to drive UKIP forward.

I am not, however, convinced that the new Chairman is the right man, nor am I convinced that the NEC will have the depth to drive forward a vision of UK independence from the EU.

The political ambivalence which predominates within the UK party system ensures that in reality the UK electorate has the choice of two elected dictatorships.

More worryingly still is the cradle to grave loyalty to a single political party which the majority of the UK's politcally 'active' masses mistake for being trully politically active. A state of affairs which is actively encouraged by 'His Tonyness'.

Until the UK's electorate realise that merely crossing the box every 5 years according to 'traditional' norms serves no-one but those who seek power then UKIP will, and can, never be more than a fringe party.

In this I find the roots of my political unrest and the need to use my knowledge to ensure that the UK goes no further down this road to national oblivion.

Perhaps some one on this forum is from Yorkshire and active in UKIP.......if so then pm me

Just going back to the subject of Winston and the Europe, i believe that Winston saw a united Europe as a quick fix to a big problem. The big threat was the USSR and he had been worrying about this since 1943. A united post war europe would be able to stand up to Russia. He never intended for Britain to turn our backs on our empire like what has happened though! Now that the Soviet Union is no more there really is no need for a united europe.
