I think the word we were looking for earlier was patriotism rather than nationalism. Nationalism does seem to have negative connotations to it. PC lefties often try to confuse and conflate the two, especially if it furthers their cause of federalism.

Yes, I guess it's a matter of terminology (whether "acceptable" in the current crazy political climate or not), but the idea is the same.
