Thanks.
Though, the web hasn't really had much of an influence on my decision. It was more a combination of The Mail (Hitchens, mainly) and Nigel Farage talking huge amounts of sense last time he was on Question Time. Oh, and the fact that nobody from the Tory party has yet explained to me why we're actually in the EU rather than the EFTA!

I'm not sure, but I believe the problem's called "The E.U.". I think I read about it on the letters page in an old copy of "This England" or something.

Joking aside, I believe that "Europe", when used in general conversation, no longer means the continent but the country. As "EU" and "Europe" are now interchangeable, we pander to the opposition in some slight way every time we mention that we don't have a problem with "Europe" - we're unifying the entity, adding weight to the need for a unified government for the entity (which is what the E.U. does, and what we don't want to do).

So... I have a problem with Europe. I don't have a problem with France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, etc., etc..

This guide is intended to provide a definitive language guide for UKIP members when writing leaflets, letters and making speeches. Even our most senior figures are guilty of misusing terms.

Europe
Europe is a geographical area; it includes all of the EU member countries and several others as well, including Norway, Switzerland and Iceland.

The European Union
The EU is a supranational political organisation. It should never be confused with “Europe”. This is the single biggest mistake made by UKIP and the media alike.

UKIP is pro-Europe, anti-EU
UKIP is not “anti-Europe” or “anti-European”, it is anti-EU. Conversely, our opponents are “pro-EU” or “EU supporters”. They should never be labelled as pro-European because that immediately creates the impression that we are anti-European.

European Union Parliament (EP)
Although the name for the Parliament is the “European Parliament”, this is clearly a misnomer, since it has no power in the non-EU member states. Or you can simply call it the “Parliament” if it is obviously in an EU context.

European Union Commission (EC)
Alternatively, just the “Commission”. As above, it cannot legitimately be called the “European Commission” because it has no power in the non-EU member states.

MEPs or MEUPs
This is a tricky one because the term “MEP” is already in very common use in Britain. Therefore I suggest that you retain the acronym, but expand it to be “Member of the European Union Parliament” if necessary.

Eurosceptic or anti-EU
The Conservative party has sought to hijack the phrase “eurosceptic” to mean anyone critical of the EU. This watered down definition should not be associated with UKIP. We are anti-EU, which is a far more serious commitment than just being eurosceptic.

European Union Constitution
The "European Constitution" does not apply to the non-EU countries in Europe and so it is inaccurate to call it anything other than the “European Union Constitution” or the “EU Constitution”.
There is a very good reason why we don't use the term "anti-european" - because we aren't. We are pro-Europe, anti-EU
