Can UKIP profit from the Tories terrible stance on id cards.
There is a growing rumbling of discontent among Tories, which feel that Mr Howard has let them down. There is also a feeling that this is driven by European as uch as domestic politics. What do you all think? |

I just can't understand it. The Tories almost look like they have pressed the self-destruct button on this. It is almost like they have given up trying to pretend they are opposition to Labour any more. The list of things to attack the Tories is abou the same as Labour now.
The Lib Dems major weakness is their wish to hand the keys straight over to the EU. The fact that they are Jeckyl or Hyde, depending on whether they are North or South needs pointing out too!

The Tories are not the Tories anymore.
I am now TOTALLY COMMITED TO UKIP. This country has and always be committed to FREEDOM, Free Speech and under the EU everything has been changed. If the Tories were the Tories they would not be in favour of ID cards and they would be able to take on Blair. The ONLY PARTY that can do this and it is very difficult is UKIP. Michael |

Whilst I agree with the sentiments from everyone. From personal experience, I would say the vast majority of tory voters, and I dont mean activists, are probably the keenest supporters of ID cards, particularly working class tories.

I think that the vast majority of support for ID cards at the moment is largely superficial and once the implications are hammered home by UKIP and the Lib Dems, the support will collapse. At least we aren't on our own in this particular fight.

Totally agree with you Anthony. Once people become aware of the costs of ID cards both financial and personal, then those majorities in favour will drop. This is probably a long burner but we well benefit from our stance in the long term.

I agree with the idea that most Tories are superficial supporters of id cards. When the arguments are laid out properly in front of them they will change their minds.
On the other hand, those who dislike the idea are very passionate about not accepting it.
