Default Strengthen the Commonwealth

Once we leave Europe, we need to build a strong global Britain. I was born in Kent, but now I live in Canada. I think we should do the following:

Firstly, Create a federal United Kingdom. This would involve the creation of an English Parliament - perhaps somewhere in the Midlands - and strengthen the powers of the Scottish, Welsh and Ulster Governments. We should keep Westminster as the Federal Government of the United Kingdom. This would be similar to what currently exists in Canada and Australia.

Secondly, admit the thirteen remaining British dependent territories INTO phpbb_the Federal United Kingdom. Countries such as Bermuda, Gibraltar, Falkland Islands and Cayman Islands should be self-governing, but with representatives in the Federal government in Westminster. If France can do this with Martinique, French Guiana and Reunioncan, why can't we?

It really irks me that fellow subjects of the Queen from Canada and Australia are treated like foreigners when Germans, French and Dutch can just walk INTO phpbb_Britain and get a job. This must change.

Finally, I would strengthen the British Commonwealth. We need to guarantee Britain's future as a global power by creating a British Commonwealth Union of the U.K., Canada, Australia and New Zealand (and perhaps others with strong economies). This would have free trade, free movement of goods and people and employment opportunities amongst those four countries. The Prime Ministers of those four countries, which all share Queen Elizabeth II as sovereign, could act as rotating chairs of the British Commonwealth Union.

I am advocating that we leave one union and join another. We should leave Europe and build a srong British union with the countries made up of our own people. Why have a United Kingdom of only four countries? Why not expand it to seven or ten?

Ultimately, I would like to see a federal United Kingdom of Australia, Canada, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Great Britain, New Zealand and Northern Ireland.

Welcome!

I agree, we should strengthen the Commonwealth, and we should certainly look to have treaties with each of the countries you have mentioned, allowing free trade, and other mutualy beneficial arrangements.

However, I don't think there will be a massive clamour from the countries to be part of the U.K. Lets all be friends and help each other out, but I see no real need, or wish from the people of any of the nations to become one.

I certainly feel more affinity with the Canadians, Australians etc, then most of the countries in the EU!

It really annoys me the way successive goverments have turne their backs on our long time friends and allies, to concentrate on a political game of folly with the EU!
