We have been proud of our unwritten constitution but its weakness is that it is dependent on trust. Trust that the Prime Minister will not abuse his power and he has.

A constitution by definitition does not limit the people, it limits government and the only limit on the British Government is the monarch and for the last hundred years or so, because the monarch has not used this power it has atrophied and the monarch now simply hands it over and does not interfere. It is not the house of commons or the cabinet because once appointed, the nature of our constitution all0ows the Prime Minister absolute power. He can fire any minster who disagrees with him, and he controls the majority in the house through the whip system. All the debating and fuss is flim flam because when the division bell goes, the government, that is the Prime Minister, wins. He is an elected king. There is not space here to go INTO phpbb_detail but the fact is that since a constitution is defined as restriction on government and we have no such restriction, we actually have no constitution at all, we have an elective monarchy. Never forget, the office of Prime Minister is a royal appointment and not an elective post.

The Prime Minister has abused his powere by signing away our sovereignty without reference to the people. Even the French get a referendum but we do not. Blair has promised one on the Euro, where is it? He has promised one on the USSER constitution, (Union of Soviet Socialist European Republics.) But rendered it irrelevant by signing most of what it contains INTO phpbb_treaty so the actual paper is no longer important. The Bitish People have been bamboozled again, and once again we didn't notice this political sleight of hand. We need to wake up.

We need a proper written constitution but the government is the last people to trust to write one because turkeys do not vote for Christmas, and clause one should say that no government may allow a foreign power to rule this country.

There was a campaign started for people to write to the queen asking her to intervene RE the Consitution.

I started one locally an number of people wrote this letter:-

I write to exercise my right of petition permitted under our British Constitution which I will lose under the proposed European Constitution.

Under the principle of acquis communautaire, the EU has received powers to govern this country which it is entitled to keep for ever. The EU Constitution will deprive British citizens of their long-held rights to the presumption of innocence, trial by jury, and habeas corpus, together with the ability to have our own foreign and defence policy. The government is trying to force you to break your Coronation Oath to govern us according to our laws and customs.

In order to preserve the rights and freedoms of the British people under the Constitution will you please refuse Royal Assent to any Bill placing Britain under a Europe-wide Constitution until the British people, have voted on it in a referendum.

Please let me know whether you are willing to delay signing any Bill to enact the European Constitution until the government has granted us a referendum. You may by convention have to follow government advice but the government is not allowed to give you advice that is unconstitutional.

Most people got letters back saying that she "Takes advice from her ministers" and basically thats it.

Now that we are having a refendum we shall have to see.


but we need to keep up the fight.

Maybe we can glue the Bill of rights and Magna Carta together and say there you are...

What I have written on this bbs is simply a letter written on the spur of the moment containing common knowledge to all students of politics and comes entirely from my own mind and studies. I have the knack of being able to make the complex simple and a high quality of writing style, I am not surprised some second rate organisation would like to claim it for their own. It is possible however, that since the subject is the same, there may be an inadvertant correlation between to totally unconnected writers.

I lift my writing from no one, and I have had my work lifted by others in the past.

Being 'touchy' about the possibility of your text being lifted (so don't post it?) is one thing - being touchy before the event even happens is another!

It may come as a surprise to many but Britain had a written constitution under Oliver Cromwell in the 1650's. It was written by John Lambert, Oliver's fellow MP and general. It became law when Oliver was made Lord Protector in 1653. For the first time in her history the country was united under one parliament with Scotland and Ireland fully represented in the House. This act of union was thrown out in 1660 by Charles II. The constitution was so far ahead of its time that some 300 years later we are still waiting for a new one.

I looked INTO phpbb_this particular topic after listening to Jeffery Titford MEP at a congleton branch meeting.

After coming across your website over 12 Months ago I did email you at the time asking your permission and you did reply saying no problem.


If you were so worried about it "Being Lifted" you should have put something on it to suggest it shouldnt be used but from the website my understanding was everyone possible should copy it in order to support the campaign..

So what? it didnt specify CREC we all work hard at campaigning about various things and never receive any recognition nor do some of us want to. We do it because we are passionate about our country and people not because we want to create a market in wider doors to fit our heads through.

Being that I'm from Fred Dibnah land, we tend not to have arms long enough to pat ourselves on the back with.

Hmm. I've just looked at it. Then I looked again and substituted the words "Tony Blair" for the words "The Lord Protector" and began to feel a bit uneasy. [It's just as bad if you use "Michael Howard" or "Charles Kennedy" or, frankly, "Ricky Gervais", though.] Too much power in too few hands. Needs more work methinks.
