The telecom companies should pony up for infrastructure improvements not the tax payer

This is interesting as undoubtedly every home in the modern world should have the internet at a reliable speed of service .I also think that 50p a month is not an extreem amount to contribute to that endevour as the internet gives the tools needed in this age to save conciderably more than that by the use of and so would benefit the people who need that saving the most .

The concern i have is that somehow i do feel that the intent will be a fork tongue like senario where the money raised will be more used to initiate what i have heard called internet 2 .The net will not be as we know it and so i have very deep concerns as to whether in the long run it will serve the people who do need it most .( the saving it brings i mean ) .

Internet 2 is an unknown entity as yet ,but its coming thats for certain .

Critics of the plan to charge landline telephone users 50 pence a month extra (£6 a year) say that people will be asked to pay towards something they did not ask for and which they may not use. Critics also make the point that many people are struggling to pay for a broadband connection now and will not be able to afford £6 a year more for their landline telephone bill.

I am not understanding the reasons for this as i am with Orange ,i pay bt nothing ........i pay orange £17 a month and get for that .

    Unlimited broad band
Free internet phone for use on any numbers starting with the 01 or 02 code anytime .
I get my Bt land line phone free after 6 week days and weekend anytime .

Even with my calls to mobiles and other numbers my bill has never been over £25 pound a month .

On that basis i do not understand how anyone could say they can not afford the net with the cost saving attribute to useing one ..........................i would say the could not afford to not have it .And 50p a week or £6 a year ...........just doesnt hold up .

I do however see in one case i know that where a person has messed up paying for the land line of bt and had to go the dongle or other root .....paying a forune for the use of a mobile and a dongle to do the same job .

I also think the British public some times want both ends of the argument because Bt had a mass exordus when the people wanted cheap when they put their call centres abroad .

Bt listned and brought all call centres back to improve the service ........but it isnt a real world to want the cheapest and best service sometimes .
The rental for a line off bt last time i ask was £12 or so on its own ..............when you think out of my £17 i pay to orange ,orange must pay bt something to use its line out of this and although they may get a reduce rate ,its still as close to the best of both worlds with a deal like i have got and anyone else can have .

I also think that this is directly associated with another issue concerning technology at large ...........people are far too sceptical because they are not understanding how to use it to its best potential .

An example is that a family up the road with the exact same package that i have was so sceptical of the deal that they said no to the internet phone in the deal and said they wanted their phone line to stay with bt .....feeling safer .

What that done was although they were paying for the same internet package ,they were also haveing to pay the Bt line rental together with calls because to get all that the offer gives you have to ok orange to take control of the bt line as well .

They were paying orange and bt because of this and i had to leave the room when i was trying to tell them that they were paying for something twice the way they were doing it .
They just would not believe that the deal gave what it said it did .

But they did come back later and say the made a phone call and it was all true and all that had to happen was for them to say yes to the full package that they were already paying for .crackers

Too many people do not understand that BT, The Gas Board and the Electric companies have been privitised and are PLC's and still believe that they are the only supplier

You can't help it. Somehow they authorities are learning that you're Earning more than you did i guess. This 50 pence per connection (multiply it with your region or city and eventually the entire nation) would amount to millions if not billions. Those would be allocated towards military spendings around the world.
