Default Who's afraid of the big bad EU??

Personally I'm not feeling very threatened by a European super state. In order to become a proper superpower Europe would have to get rid of free health care, free universities, extensive welfare benefits and replace them with weapons and be willing to spend huge amounts of money to use them. They would have to give welfare only to a small sub-section of society and spend huge amounts of money developing alliances in the developing world and deploying their collective army in places like Haiti, Somalia and the Sudan instead of critiquing how we're doing it. Good-bye to the 35 hour work week and striking when you are asked to put in what would be considered a full week's work in the US. In essence, they would have to do what we've wanted them to do for years.

The European super state is only a threat to elites in the US and to the common European. I personally do not have any power so I don't feel like I'm losing anything but a few extra hours at work. I have been waiting for Europe to do more than whine about things for years and years.

Of course, Britain gets royally screwed out of the deal because Britain has been spending money on the military and actually using it. Britain is already relevant to world affairs and doesn't really need to be swallowed up by the new European empire in order to get things done. Britain doesn't need a peanut gallery of weak allies supporting them because Britain has the admiration of the US. Your media may tell you that we're dying, but that's what they want you to believe to get their political ambitions achieved. Take a look at the numbers unfiltered by the media.. the dollar is rising and our economy is not in recession, it is growing 48% faster than the EU.

Yes, we are a hyper-power and we love Britain. The same can't be said about most of the worthless Continentals.

To the sellouts in Britain who brought this upon yourselves,

We may have asked you to do things you didn't really want to do, nor did we, but at the end of the day you were still British and free to make your own choices. Vietnam no, Iraq yes.. It's up to you, but soon enough it won't be.

Put the Tories back in power and get back on track before it's too late for Britain. They will at least put up a fight. Hang, draw and quarter the lying editors of the Guardian and the BBC. Do these things and you've got a fighting chance of winning the new Cold war vs. German and French Socialist elites. Keep on the current track and say good-bye to the United Kingdom of GB and NI and say hello to European district 3B.

For what? Degree/masters/doctorate?

Mine's going to cost around $60,000. Otherwise known as £30,000 or €38,000.

Are you not aware that most universities on the Continent are free, or close to it, or are you just having a little fun??

I don't have a clue about the continent, but they're not free here.

bw3tt> University costs us a fair amount these days, not as much as the US but compared to places like France a lot more. Also we have a screwed up system where English residence get the sh**ty end of the stick over tuition fee's.

I have to say what you mentioned about the 35 hour working week is spot on. When I was down in the Med I was chatting to a Dentist from London who worked down there and explained how it wasn't worth him doing overtime as the Tax was so heavy it made it pointless.
My problem here is that I actually wanted to do overtime when I was a 9-5:30er but you get taxed to hell on it when you hit the next tax bracket. That's why being self employeed has been a benefit.
A lot of laxy people work for the government as they get a cushy job with good holiday for doing ****** all.
