There's little point in coparing who did what and to who, it'll simply take us all down a rat hole. The issue as I see it is how changes in the world will change the position that Israel has, and how it may no longer have the resolute "friends" it once had.

There seems to be little doubt that there’s another war on its way, the actions of Hezbollah in The Lebanon indicating sooner rather than later, just what the possible outcomes might be. None look attractive for the Israeli’s, or for the rest of us come to that.

Would a modern day US under an Obama presidency “get stuck in”?

Personally I doubt it, at least not to any significant extent, and for a variety of reasons.

Would the Israeli’s “go nuclear”? In my opinion, probably. Would doing so be of any use? No, but it would certainly be in line with the Iron Rule (eye for an eye).

The drop out of the Sarajevo assassination of the Grand Duke would be as chicken feed to that happening.

There is then the day after tomorrow aspect.

Would the Arabs stop at destroying Israel? Or would they carry on with the intent of winning back the lands they feel were stolen from them in Spain, Italy, and so on.

Already Hezbollah are making noises about Spain being next on the list of lands to be recovered.

Is it me seeing what isn’t there, or is it that the repercussions of the way that WW1 was fought and resolved are still being felt today, in fact apparently today more than ever if the geography of the former Ottoman empire and the trouble epicentres are mapped one to the other.

In most cases, the aspect of who did what to whom would be of little consequence in the great scheme of things. However, in the case of the Middle East, history plays a highly significant part in what is happening there now. Where both parties contend that they were hard done by, with the firm belief that 'God is on their side' can't be ignored. Add to this the 'character' of the peoples involved, where honour and 'keeping face' is almost paramount in their society and you have a scenario that does not bode well for a peaceful solution.

That aside, we also have to consider the considerable military advantage Israel has over it's neighbours. The 'nuclear threat' being most prominent. Would Israel use the weapon? I believe if there was danger of them being defeated, yes, most definately.

This is all they have at present. Their credibility, internationally, is at an all time low and it's only the pro-Israeli groups within various Governments that is keeping full condemnation of their policies from being brought into the open.

So it should come as no surprise that certain factions would like to see an end to the billions of dollars/pounds being poured into Israel. For without that, Israel would have to toe-the-line and take international opinion more seriously.
