Default Italians learn why they shouldn't trust government

BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Italy posts income details on web

Quote:
There has been outrage in Italy after the outgoing government published every Italian's declared earnings and tax contributions on the internet. The tax authority's website was inundated by people curious to know how much their neighbours, celebrities or sports stars were making.

I bet Italian businesses were pleased at this too. All the employees finding out what their mates get, then demanding the same.

All the more reason for taking up tax avoidance and income obfuscation as a hobby.

Don't believe for one minute that it couldn't happen here!!

Have you seen the new advert for the TV Licence 'its all in our database' you can't escape.

Maybe its a trial run for the ID database.

Ah well this kind of 'advert' does wonders for the anti-ID card lobby. I was having a conversation about it last night and TV vans + TV van adverts were brought up as a good reason to suggest their intentions are 100% evil. Apparently they have permission to demand to inspect your home and these inspectors are multi-agency. For example they get let in for one reason and then they report to other agencies anything that they might be interested in. We all agreed that there was no way a TV inspector would be let into any of our homes and that it would be very unsafe for any of them to try to without our permissions.

If not, well, there is no escape

No, I have a big plant pot where the TV would normally positioned and a window that looks out onto the meadows. There are lots of rare birds flying around, we even get birds of prey sometimes and the area is reported to be one of the most populated wildlife sites in Europe. The BBC took their cameras up there to film it last year. My 'screen' is somewhat larger than most and I get surround sound as well. Why on earth would I need a TV?

If you have a PC with internet connection (and can thus receive TV broadcasts) you have to pay the BBC poll tax.

No, only if you actually watch programmes as they are broadcast.
