Default martin luther king

on the news they said something like " and the rightwing loathed king "

what ? I am right wing, I do not loath king, I respect and honour his memory.

why do they report the news to discredit the right wing ?

John mc cain was the only one at the memorial service for king, was he not ?

I know the left would love him for his own but this is manipulation I feel.

It is based upon an assumption of what left and right wing were or are. My guess is that because he was anti-Vietnam and many in the government began to dislike him for this, the modern media assumes that this makes him hated by the right. However, as we all know, the Vietnam war was started by the Democrats and ended by the Republicans, no matter how much of a spin the left-wing media would wish to put on this. The media has placed so much of a spin on things that when most people here of 'American expansionism' or any other such phrase, they automatically assume this to be a right-wing ideology, as opposed to what it really is, a left-wing one. As much as Nixon may have been a crook, he still managed to bring about more peace and stability (ending the Vietnam war and opening up China) than any bloodthirsty Democrat could have done.

If not this, I think it may come down to the fact that MLK was rather socialist in his political views (once we step past the race issue). However, if we look at history we will actually find that many (if not most) of these racist laws in the south were placed there by Democrats, not Republicans. Furthermore, it was the Republicans who ended slavery in the USA in the first place, not to mention that the Republicans played a much larger role in getting rid of some of the racist laws than did the Democrats. Despite his left-wing political views, his racial and military views certainly fit much better with a right-wing ideology than they do with a left-wing one.

The left will continue to try and steal famous people. Gordon Brown is currently trying to do it with Adam Smith and there is no doubt in my mind that if Adam Smith could see the state of modern Britain he would be absolutely appalled.

P.S. John McCaine is not right wing, he's one of the biggest lefties in the political playing field.

It is to say the least interesting to examine the facts about the man behind the myth.

Like the terrorist, Mandela, he is most certainly not what is widely portrayed.

Except you know, he's not. Leftwing is Luxembourg, Proudhon, Kropotkin or maybe Trotsky(who I hate.). You mean slightly left of centre.

The left don't tend to do this much(Brown is not even left.). The American style libertarian however love to do this.

If you hang about on this forum a little longer you will see that there is a huge ambiguity concerning what constitutes the left-right divide.

Bear is brainwashed - he seems to be saying that anyone who stands up against corrupt governments is the guilty one.

Well don't worry Bear - I'm sure under Brown you've a good chance of be labelled a terrorist too...

I'd love to know your take on Martin Luther !

Did the French resistence organise and execute attacks on civilian populations?

Mandela did.
