Default Former Australian Prime Minister ..

Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard made this speech. Wouldn't it be good to have a politician in Parliament with the guts to make one like it...

Quote:
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.. Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'.

'We speak mainly ENGLISH; not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society. Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other g reat Australian freedom,
'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Notice something familiar about the content of the speech?

I have no idea how old it is. Perhaps you'd be good enough to tell me. The point I make from it is that other countries seem to be having a set too with various ethnic minorities demanding they be catered to. In Australia it got to the point where their (then) Prime Minister decided to put a stop to it.

It is not racist, by any standard, to want to keep ones own way of life and standards in ones own country.

If a group of people are invited to come into this country, then I can see the reasoning to 'look after' them. Plain good manners. But for people who invite themselves here, it is just bad manners on their part to demand changes to suit them, no matter who they are.

I don't know what you do for a living Hartlepool, but whatever it is, I doubt very much if the company you work for allows clients to tell it how to run its business, arrange the decor and furniture, when to work and when not to. Any company that does so will soon be down the pan.

In what way is it "racialist"? And why do you think the moderators should remove it?

The thread adds nothing new. I can't even remember the first time I received the 'speech', or a variant of it, via e-mail. It is no longer current.

Howard lost the last election and the new PM has apologised to the aboriginal peoples of Australia. Australia may be Howard's own country, but it was someone else's beforehand. The invading white people did not respect the culture of the natives, nor did they learn the language or conform to the religious practices. I don't think I would have either, but we have to be careful how we address these issues.

Absolutely agree. As a Nationalist I can appreciate the harm that has been done to other cultures through arrogance and ignorance. The British Empire was responsible for a great many atrocities, not least of which was the displacement of indigenous populations. But we should be able to learn the lessons from history, and be able to take steps to avoid such incidents again, either to other nations, or recognise when it is happening to us.

We cannot and should not be held accountable for what our ancestors did or did not do. We are responsible for our actions, not theirs. If we do wrong, then we should be prepared to accept responsibility for those actions, not hide away and pretend otherwise.

The reason I started this thread was to point out that Britain is not the only country that is having problems with immigration, and we should be wary of any more of our rights being superceded by this Government in order to appease an ethnic minority that came to this country uninvited.

Your welcome, nothing meant by my original post to demean the article.

I wish it was brand new and had just been posted by someone in the EU/UK.
