Incidentally, the main objector in the EU to Germany having a permanent seat was the Italian Government of Silvio Berlusconi. I think he took the view that if Germany got a seat - his nation (which, as we know has a similarly-sized population to that of the UK or France) should have one too. The same sort of line is being taken in Africa - the Nigerians (population of over 100 million people and rising) say that if South Africa (much smaller population than Nigeria) get a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, they want one too. This has resulted in Egypt (the most populous nation in Africa after Nigeria) stating that it wants a permanent seat if Nigeria and South Africa get one. Hang on Britannist, There are many Poles still alive who suffered terribly at the hands of the Germans in WW2 and If I had been one of those Poles, I'd be bitter for a lifetime. In today's PC World people tend to talk about German Nazis as if they were a sort of different race! They weren't, they were ordinary Germans! I know, I had a German aunt!
