bw3ttt is just starting out
Default Americans still love Britain!!!

I don't see how any of you could have survived the onslaught of severe anti-Americanism from the BBC and other borderline propaganda publications such as the Guardian, but apparently 51% of Brits still have a favorable view of the USA and 72% of Brits still have a favorable view of Americans according to the latest PEW Global Attitudes report.

Of course this means that 49% of you have an unfavorable view of the US and 28% say you don't like Americans. I find this very disturbing because our mother country is the only country in the world that we look up to. The vast majority of us do not pay attention to European criticism, but I'm very afraid that the UK will become a source of hatred for common Americans in the same way that France has become. A healthy BBC style campaign of anti-British garbage from CNN would probably get it kick-started quite nicely. This would really make me angry because I've always thought we were great friends. I thought we could survive an unpopular leader.

I understand the desire for a proud nation, the once master of the Earth to be viewed as an equal partner rather than a sidekick nation. I understand the frustration with being pulled into an unpopular war and constantly being scolded by your obnoxious media as a result. I even understand the attempt to force regime change in America by constantly insulting our citizens into action. It's not a good plan, but it was worth a try.

What I don't understand is how it could be taken so far and why it continues. What is the purpose of anti-Americanism in 2007 within Britain? You got rid of Blair, your involvement in Iraq has slowed to almost nothing and the replacement of Schroeder and Chirac with slightly pro-American and extremely pro-American leaders in the other major EU countries have effectively put an end to any realistic chance of an anti-American superpower emerging from the main EU military and economic powers. I find it very hard to believe that the French and Germans would give up free health care and universities and replace these institutions with an unwinnable, pointless weapons race with the US anyway.

I'm interested in hearing some commentary from the 49% regarding their plan for Britain after they have managed to alienate their country from the friendship of the most powerful country in the world. From my perspective it seems supremely counter-productive, disregards strong historical bonds and lacks proper understanding of what the world is going to be like in the 21st century.

To put it simply we admire you, and I don't mean to be insulting, but we have stronger and more important allies all over the world. The Japanese and Indians in terms of power and wealth make your island seem insignificant and their citizens have an overwhelmingly positive view of our country as well as our people. Our allegiance to Britain lies in a perceived bond with the people and the culture of Great Britain and not because the UK has anything we need to continue being the dominant power on Earth. Somebody needs to point this out to the BBC before it's too late. We have a lot of tolerance for insults, but it's getting old.

Anyway, Britain, cousins, mates, we still love you!! We'll be there if you ever really need us in whatever capacity you need us. Why would you want to turn us into an enemy?? Bush will be gone soon enough.

Thanks,

Mr. Mason
