Default Ian Smith Dies aged 88

BBC NEWS | World | Africa | Ex-Rhodesia leader Ian Smith dies

Mr Smith fought bravely in the fight against Facism to ensure the freedom of speach was avialable to many who attacked him for his policys.

Whilst I do not offer support for his actons I would say that no doubt many will feel that his country was better off then it is now.

RIP and God Bless Sir.

Yes, the winds of change blew away the good with the bad.
I spent weeks and weeks patrolling "Faith", "Hope" and "Charity" during the Beira oil blockade, just a young man then, sigh.

Britannist has some supporters
Default Ian Smith, Lord (Harold) Wilson, Lord Carrington

Ian Smith judged Lord (Harold) Wilson (former Labour Prime Minister) and Lord Carrington (the europhile former UK 'Conservative' Foreign Secretary) correctly - he disliked both of them.

If Ian Smith had committed only 10% of the crimes carried out by that murderous thug Mugabe he would have been reviled.

Harold Wilson, Prime Minister impersonator extraordinnaire, bears most of the responsibility for the ousting of Ian Smith and the subsequent nightmare that is Zimbabwe.

Indeed, I thought he was a little too mild in his langauge when he described Mugabe as a gangster. I dont think I could be as controlled.

As my Priest put it in his sermon on Good Friday this year, a country once the jewel of Africa, a land of plenty is now in the grip of a satanic type evil.
