Default This week so far for British troops in Iraq

While the media is more concerned abut Big Brother - this week in Iraq our troops put up with this:

6 British soldiers wounded in rocket and mortar attacks on their base in Basra.

1 British soldier injured after 13 Katusha rockets fell on the British a base in Basra

1 British soldier was wounded when a mine exploded near a British boat in Shatt al-Arab followed by firing from the two river banks.

2 British soldiers injured when a roadside bomb exploded the hit the troops' armoured convoy as they carried out a security patrol along the banks of a river in the Al Ashshar area of Basra province.

15 mortars fell on the British base at Shatt al-Arab hotel in Basra starting fires - no casualties reported.

Two British bases were targeted with 34 katusha rockets and 4 mortar shells, only one military vehicle was damaged.

These are just some of the attacks that have been reported this week.

It'll be like this for years now.

Military Operations

British soldier killed in Basrah City, Iraq
21 Jan 07
It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of a soldier, in Basrah City, Southern Iraq, today, Sunday 21 January 2007.

The soldier was killed in a roadside bomb attack on the outskirts of the northern part of Basrah City, near the districts of Al Hadi and Al Jezaizah.

He was serving with 2nd Battalion The Light Infantry, as part of a unit attached to 1st Battalion the Staffordshire Regiment, based at the Shaat Al Arab Hotel in the north of Basrah city.

Four other soldiers were injured during the incident, one of them remains in very serious condition, the other three soldiers are in a stable condition. They have been medically evacuated from the scene and are receiving the best possible medical care at the field hospital.

The roadside bomb detonated targeting a MNF Warrior armoured personnel carrier patrol manoeuvring in the north of Basrah city. It is unclear whether the casualties were dismounted at the time of the attack.

The soldier's family have been informed and have asked for a 24 hour period of grace before any more information is released.

I just don't understand why they aren't more grateful for this liberation.
