I honestly don't know what the fuss is about RE: the hanging of Saddam.
Everyone knew what the verdict was going to be, the man was found guilty of,amongst other charges, of gassing Kurdish men, women & children. Perhaps the Kurds should have been asked how they wanted him to die, perhaps with the same dignity he afford them to die?.
Perhaps it would have been better if he had been"shot while trying to escape" when first captured. A lot of tit for tat Iraqi lives *may have been saved.
Anyway, a good job he wasn't tried in this country, with time on remand ,he would be free in a few years:roll:

Conveniently for many world leaders, he was not on trial for this horrific event.

Default State murders in Romania and Iraq damage national image

I am appalled at the 'death penalty' (state murder).

I remember Enoch Powell - the 'father' of the anti-EU movement in the UK - being a campaigner against state murder during most or all of this political career.

The murder of the murderer Saddam Hussein reminds me of the killing of that old couple who used to run Romania and who patriotically kept out Russian troops from occupying the country. Mr. and Mrs. Nicolae Ceausescu I believe were their names (both once made a State Visit to the UK).

Charmingly, the hate mob in Bucharest chose to gun the pair down at lunchtime on Christmas Day and to show the bodies - riddled with bullets - to television viewers in what is a Christian land. It really would have been better if the two had been punished by being deprived of their lavish lifestyle and sent to prison.

That very public killing of the aging Ceausescu couple did enormous damage to the international image of Romania. In fact, it is usually named as the one thing that people know about the country when asked. The same applies to Iraq. The state murder of Saddam Hussein means that the name of the former dictator will hang over the country like a dark cloud for some time to come.

Mikeuk, Do you think Saddam was innocent of all those crimes he was supposed to have committed against his own people and should not have been executed?

Or do you think even if he had committed those crimes, he still shouldn't have been executed?
Who knows? Probably exaggerated, and it was nothing to do with us anyway. All that Arab bunch are a gang of murderous thugs. Saddam was no worse and no better than any of them.

However, Iraq was a safer place before the present US puppet scum took over.
