Correct John. They got me on the extra car licence, possibly because I was too stupid to know about it (it took them two years so I had 2 years of back payments).
When you live somewhere you have to go along to your local Housing Bureau to register where you live, which costs money. You can only get one if you take with you the stamped piece of paper from the Housing Bureau from the last locality you lived in saying you've moved out. Without this there are a variety of things you can't get, such as a rented apartment (naturally there is a little bit of overlap here). So they know where you live. You need to also take this piece of paper to the car registering place, along with several other bits of paper, to re-register your car to your new address. You will get a new number plate. All of which, paperwork, piece of metal, TUV stamp, all has to be paid for. So they know you have a car. So two people with different surnames registered at the same address, two cars (in our case) also registered at the same address. Easy really. This is only a small fraction of the paperwork that has to be completed here just to make it through the day. |
