Of course the French are really cunning by practising "economic patriotism", while pretending to support the single market.

Most French people will always go for a French product if at all possible, and that has kept their car industry much stronger than it deserves to be.

Most British people prefer a foreign product.

Partly that, but also it's also a snob thing that got started with cars in the 60s.

It makes me laugh/cry that we have loads of companies that make cars here now, but none of them really British.

Mind there is no such thing as a nationaly owned car really. Shareholders come from around the world.

If we support "independence" there is something less than fully satisfactory about this.

A rural dweller who merrily rips out the old wood-burner when cheap gas arrives might live to regret that action - in fact would probably be regretting it this winter.

Not a good advert for protectionism. No one buys American cars because of this. So the American car industry is limited and poor and the people of America get a c*** choice.

Hence American car companies are now begining to look very sick.
It's much better than the UK car industry considering we now havnt got one.

Lose lose.
Well that shows the need for the USA to leave NAFTA.

We dont have much choice but to buy foreign now.
One of the big problems is Public bodys wont buy British cars as its seen as Nationalistic.
The Police and NHS for example.

Probably that, but also British hyper-zealous adherence to EU driven "compulsory competitive tendering" no doubt involved.

There are still cars made in Britain, just not owned by British companies.

In the era of the shareholder, I question whether there is such as thing as a national company. I own shares in companies around the world, including Britain.

That's globalisation for you.
