It must be a massive book. You're probably in it too, along with Aardvark and many other people on this British site who have dared to criticise US policy and its 'President'.

It comes to something when a foreign visitor to the site starts posting what can only be described as veiled threats, and shows that when neo-cons lose the argument they attempt to bring in Big Brother.

I'm so afraid I'm thinking of undergoing a Damascene conversion!

'America, my country 'tis of thee' and all that...

not.

ukp, I would be interested to see if I could get into the USA on the basis of what you say. I've been several times when I was a serving officer in a NATO air force, but not since I've left.

I've got a KGB file as well, but the Russians let me in even if I did have a military interpreter and my driver was a 'former' military driver.

There are rules on diplomats that all nations are supposed to abide by (Vienna Convention). There is no point having a UN based in the US if visiting ambassadors are not allowed to express themselves openly. Bush has made many mistakes and we are all entitled to criticise him.

I am currently reading the excellent life of Tom Paine by John Keane; it is clear that Paine would not have approved of Bush.

I'm sure he wouldn't

You probably haven't got there yet, but does it mention Cobbett's preposterous plan to bring Paine's bones home from America in a sack?

I'm not sure whether he succeeded or not.

Must admit my comments were a bit tongue in cheek, for blondy's benefit as much as anything. I've no doubt at all that various fanatical Bush supporters have been reporting comments on websites, in the media and so on, which are critical to the CIA and others, in much the same way that you get busybodies in the UK who seem to spend their time spying on their neighbours and reporting them to the council, police or whoever for the silliest things. What the CIA do with that information is another matter.

Very true indeed. Intimidating diplomats and Government members from other countries on one's own soil is barbaric and flouts both the spirit and the letter of international relations. It's what one might expect of some Third World despot, but even there diplomatic protocol was observed.

I don't know if the UN has some sort of territorial sovereignty over its offices and legations around the world, in the way that embassies are considered to be the territory of the countries which own them.

Without a doubt!

I suspect that they only deal with real threats. I don't think you have much cause for concern, [snip no abuse]

I wasn't worried anyway.

In the next few years I can see a realignment of US attitudes similar to that which followed the Vietnam withdrawal in 1975, as the Iraqi misadventure falls apart even more than it has at present. Who knows, we might even have an impeachment. Uncomfortable facts seem to be emerging increasingly often.

The only friends the neo-cons have left in the rest of the world now are Rupert Murdoch, the Israeli Right, and our very own Conservative Party. That's all there is. Everyone else just can't stand them.

You're right there. Them and also those who are whipping up support for a 'war against Islam'.

Floodland, newbie (3 posts), welcome aboard.

How do you know who is or is not a real threat to the Bush administration? Files are kept for all sorts of reasons against the day they might be needed. Being a threat to the warmongers in Blair's Government is also being a threat to Bush and his neocons.

I might not be a threat at the moment, but you never know what I am going to do next.

MI5 and other agents of the state used to keep an eye on the Greenham 'wimmin' just in case. It only takes one - John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald and others were not seen as 'threats'.
