What a strange comment by Mr. Davis. All American war dead are transported via C17's to an American airport, mainly Washington. From there they are shipped to to the home town of choice as requested by the families. Yes, they are put INTO phpbb_the holds of commercial jets, how else are they to fly the huge distances within the USA?
During the two years I was based in Saigon, the American war dead were flown with all honours from Saigons Tan Son Nuit airport to the states. Some were people I knew and worked with. After I returned to the UK from Saigon, I was based for a six month period at La Guardia airport New York by my company, to develop a navigation system (Sky Guide) for Eastern Airlines on their DC9's. To perform this task we flew development flight from La Guardia, after the days flying was over for the DC9's. These DC9's flew the LGA to Washington shuttle route. The flight day for the shuttle ended at 0100 and recommenced at 0600. Between these times we had an aircraft every night for development flying. Coming INTO phpbb_the hanger we were assigned to after midnight, would come coffins for shipment to cities all over the USA. An average of 20 coffins a night would arrive. Some were from the Vietnam war and the rest were ordinary citizens going home for their final resting place. Never once in those six months did I see any irreverence to the coffins and their contents. They were loaded with great care and reverence INTO phpbb_the freight hold by a bunch of very tough NY loaders, people you would not like to meet on a dark night. The 20 were ony the coffins that Eastern Airlines shipped, all the other carriers would have similar numbers. Coffins were delivered and loaded prior to 0600 so as to spare passengers distress. Its unfortunate that you feel the US government are uncaring about their war dead.

Thankyou saabvolvo.
A very interesting & informative posting. Sometimes, some people on this forum, let their dislike of Americans, and all things american, cloud their reasoning, resulting in rather obnoxious comments concerning the American war dead. |

I'm pro-American, but anti-war and yep maybe that clouds my judgement.
So Quote:
Oh and no offence, buy what happened back in the Vietnam era has little relevance on what goes on today.

This is off the original topic, but I want to say something in support of mkdavies and I guess it can have a more broad application after reading this and the Tookie thread.
I'm American and have been a forum member for more than a year. I don't think he's anti-American and even if he was, that is his right. It is everyone's right. I appreciate that there are people who want to be fair towards the United States and keep an eye open for anti-Americanism, but criticism of the US and its policies are okay. I'm not saying I am not sometimes offended by the ramblings of a Harold Pinter or your average Guardian reader , but I hate to see the forum have issues over pro-American, anti-American.I hope I just didn't make things worse, but I was reading and saw the BBC criticized in one thread and mkdavies in this one. The story about how bodies are being returned home is even in the news here. If the British feel the need to discuss it, there's not a thing wrong with it. |

Regarding the transporting of dead bodies within the USA, how else are you to fly them to their home towns? Strap them INTO phpbb_a seat? What is your solution Mr. Davis?
Unfortunately if you look at your record of listings they are mostly anti-American. If you have a winge that is fair and honest fine but even handedness seems not to be one of your virtues unfortunately.

Of course not, but they should't be flown as normal cargo, in amongst a load of other baggage. When a hearse carries a body to the church, they don't strap them INTO phpbb_seats do they, but they have a more dignified journey than as part of the luggage. Quote:

Being judged as anti-American or pro-American depends on a response to a topic concerning America, surely?
We all have views on the Americans in just the same way we have views on Ausies,French,Germans or any other Nationality. Truly stating your responses as MKP often does on a number of posts is just that and nothing more. No way can anyone formulate an opinion that someone is definately Pro or Anti anything just because the "accused" has answered truthfully on a point(s) in question. |
