Default Traveler agitated before boarding jet

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...512100408/1012

Quote:
MIAMI -- The airline passenger shot to death by federal marshals who said he made a bomb threat was agitated even before boarding. One passenger said he "absolutely never heard the word 'bomb' " during the uproar as the Orlando-bound flight prepared to leave Miami on Wednesday.
Another cover up?

Hate to be harsh, but wifey should never have let him near an airport. You can't mess about with airline security - in an aircraft all travellers lives are in the hands of one another, in effect. There is no second chance from 36,000 feet.

Sad - but they did the right thing IMHO.

No more people with mental illnesses in public then?

Back to Asylums?

Why did they lie about him saying he had a bomb?

This brave new world we are in means you have to expect to be shot now, if you look at a guard funny.

Stop the planet, I want off.

No - The guilt here is with the wife. All it would have needed was prior discussion with the airline to ensure he was managed and looked after as his condition required.

It doesn't look like she took that step. She should also be aware that the US is (rightly) very edgy about any out of the ordinary behaviour on board airliners.

I would be surprised if the Airline wasn't aware. They specifically ask if there are any special needs or requirments. If she withheld the fact he had issues, then sure she is to blame.

Oh, and

I think is a red herring IMHO. The criteria for a threat isn't someone saying helpfully that they have a bomb, the criteriais that the person acts as if they are a genuine threat.

When challenged, he reached for/INTO phpbb_his backpack. It's a no choice, instantaneous decision by the security people.

If the airline nor authories were aware he had issues, then you can't really blame them for taking action over the odd behaviour. I still think Tazers are better, but there you go.

The questions for me remain.

1) Why lie about him saying he had a bomb?
2) Did the wife really not make the airport aware of her husbands condition?

But why shot someone who is leaving the plane, he was not a threat the other passengers.
