Default Bush plot to bomb his Arab Ally

http://www.sky.com/skynews/picture_g...203527,00.html

Quote:
The Daily Mirror says President George W Bush wanted to bomb the Qatar headquarters of Arab TV station al-Jazeera, but was talked out of it by Tony Blair.
The more I hear, the more I'm scared.

It's about time al-Jazeera was taken care of.

Blair talked him out of it (if the Mirror is to be believed) because Blair's a weak-minded fool.

They say Bush was being humorous, but that's no excuse. Freedom of the press and all that. I don't agree with everything al-Jazeera reports, but they give an Arab perspective on the news and that is actually a valuable thing in this day and age. If Bush was serious, he would have been contemplating a crime. Reporters are not enemy combatants regardless of their views. And I know you all dislike Blair, but if Bush really did say that and Blair stopped him from doing it, then the PM deserves a pat on the back.

A bit like Regan saying the nukes were going to fly at Russia eh?

Sounds like bull to me. Why would Blair be said to have persuaded him if it was a joke.

I find it amazing that people are now happy to see civilian targets, in countries that are not involved and have done nothing but REPORT what both sides are saying and doing.

We're all going to hell.

I wouldn't doubt it. But it's always good to try and stay positive. Work for British independence even from the US and then the UK can stay clear of these things. Think of the day when you will have a government that will say "no" to whatever the United States asks of it. It will all be okay in time.

As for me, I don't know if hell will be so bad. Mark Twain said that's where all the interesting people are

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story...648590,00.html

Quote:
The attorney general last night threatened newspapers with the Official Secrets Act if they revealed the contents of a document allegedly relating to a dispute between Tony Blair and George Bush over the conduct of military operations in Iraq.
It is believed to be the first time the Blair government has threatened newspapers in this way. Though it has obtained court injunctions against newspapers, the government has never prosecuted editors for publishing the contents of leaked documents, including highly sensitive ones about the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.
No, I guess revealing all the lies and deceit wouldn't look good. Backing a lunatic who wants to bomb friendly countries T.V stations, probably not the image Bliar wants to portray.

I think not.

al-Jazeera aids, abets and shelters terrorists (i.e. OBL - they've known his whereabouts since 9/11 at least a couple of times because they've sent reporters to his location and filmed him). Not to mention fuelling insurgent behaviour in Iraq.

Time they were taken care of. Period.

al-Jazeera is just a symptom, not a cause. You don't heal a spot on your face by cutting it out with a knife.

UK History did a fantastic documentary about the tv station during the war. It was interesting seeing things with an arabic spin on events. Just like it is interesting seeing Fox News every now and then.

Bombing al-Jazeera would have been like putting out a fire with petrol.

You are absolutely correct, Al-Jazeera is a mouthpiece for Bin Laden. We had a taste of Al-Jazeera when Qatar Airways bought new aircraft. The attendees they sent to the aircraft arrival party were wonderful people not to touch with a barge pole.
