What about motorcycle helmets, fancy dress masks, balaclavas, scarfs around the face etc etc?

I agree in the street or whatever.
For job interviews etc though, they have to show some common sense.

We don't allow people to wear what they want in public, there are limits. You could get arrested for wearing too little.
There's a problem with gangs of youths wearing hoods so they are getting banned. The birqa would be banned the day after (if it should happen and it has happened in other countries) someone suicide bombed while wearing one. The question is, is it a security risk as the hood is deemed to be a crime risk? I have always had the thought about whether the woman is being made to be under subjection when I see one wearing a burqa. That is what it symbolises to me. I think of the Taliban. That is the association. A modified burqa like a Nun's habit may suffice, if the woman wants to wear it, there should be no question of her having to wear it in Britain. That begs the question though, doesn't it? Christina |

Are they? I've only seen private shopping centres ban them so far.

I have no problem with that.
I'm sure they also stop people wearing helmets etc too.

The change in attitude in the Netherlands has been brought on largely by the stabbing to death in public and broad daylight of the film director (Van Gogh, I think his name was).
The Dutch prided themselves for a long time on being at the forefront of the open, multi-culti, everything-goes movement. I have quite a few friends in the Netherlands, of varying nationalities, and it is interesting to hear some of the views nowadays. Some are questioning the drugs situation, more and more are unhappy with the EU and the euro is out of favour, and all are questioning the muslim situation (though not all are questioning immigration as such, but that could just be the people I know). The Dutch 'no' vote was a bigger shock than the French vote, I think, especially to the Dutch themselves. I think it showed a few of them that there was an alternative and you could think about the direction the country was going in. More power to em! |
