Default EU officials retire at 50…and you pay for it

http://www.ukip.org/abc_news/gen12.php?t=1&id=1540

Quote:
Taxpayers in Britain are having to fund a new Brussels gravy train which will see unelected Eurocrats retiring on massive pensions at 50.

Under the crazy plan they will be able to leave on 65 per cent of their salaries - or up to £6,000 a month.

Those who hang on until they are 55 can retire on a full salary.

At least 340 officials have taken advantage so far, draining EU coffers of £14million.

Officials as young as 50 are being encouraged to retire on generous pensions so they can be replaced from countries that have only recently joined the European Union, like Hungary and Poland.

Shadow Foreign Secretary Liam Fox said taxpayers would be “appalled” at having to pay for this “Euro gravy train”.

As Britain puts more INTO phpbb_the EU than it takes out, it will be one of the small number of nations having to bear the brunt of the scheme.

Under a European statute, officials older than 45 on May 1, 2004, or those who have been in office 20 years can opt to take early retirement at 50.

Those who simply cannot wait until their 50th birthday to retire can give up work at any time.

Mr Fox said: ‘This will reinforce the view that Europe is being run for the unelected Eurocrats by Eurocrats who are increasingly out of touch with the ordinary people of Europe.”

German MEP Markus Ferber, of the Christian Social Union, exposed the “fat cat” scheme.

He admitted that the early retirement policy could alienate EU taxpayers.

He told German newspaper Bild: “It is a slap in the face for taxpayers if they have to work longer to pay for early retirement for well-paid EU officials”.

The details of the pensions deal is the latest evidence of the perks dished out at taxpayers’ expense by Brussels amid chaos over the EU’s accounts. The National Audit Office found 10,000 cases of possible fraud in 2002.

Those who work directly for EU institutions pay no national taxes. Instead they pay a levy of 16 per cent to Brussels on their basic salary. This is outweighed, though, by a 16 per cent annual bonus on their entire package for working abroad.

There are also generous allowances for housing and children and help with school fees.

Scandal of EU parasites

Daily Express Opinion – 17th August 2005

The pensions industry is in crisis. Millions of us are living in fear of a poverty-stricken old age. And what is the reaction of the European Union officials, those self-selected, self-important meddlers who would seek to intrude INTO phpbb_every aspect of our lives? They grant themselves massive pensions at 50 – an age when they are young enough to begin a second career.

If ever there was an example of what a bloated and corrupt institution the EU has become, this is it. These people are leeches: gorging themselves on EU money and ensuring they will have a steady stream of the stuff for life.

And who pays for this bonanza? The taxpayer – the same taxpayer who may have to work longer to fund someone else’s retirement. This grotesque scheme must be dropped now.
Makes you feel glad to be alive doesn't it.

No, p***** off again.

1 - there should have been a strong press release off the back of this.

2 - The version on the UKIP site should not contain a positive attribute to a tory.

3 - the Ken Clarke story preceding the pension story has no place on a UKIP website.

.
I showed this press release to a "Eurocrat" friend of mine. She hasn't stopped laughing since!! "Chance would be a fine thing" was one of the more coherent things she said.

There is apparently an early retirement scheme, but not at 50. Numbers are very limited, forms have to be filled in stating exactly why the applicant feels she or he should be allowed to go, there will then be a series of interviews at which the applicant has to fight his or her case, and most applications are turned down.

You cannot retire at 55 - or at any other age for that matter - on a "full salary".
