Default WTO: EU banana tariff is illegal

http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs....508020330/1001

Quote:
The World Trade Organization ruled Monday that a new European Union tariff on imported bananas is illegal, siding with nine Latin American countries who said Brussels' proposal would seriously limit their ability to export the fruit.

A WTO arbitration body backed a claim by the Latin American countries - including Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela - who said the proposed European Union tariff of 230 euros ($279) per ton would have a "devastating effect" on the development of their economies.
The EU, wrecking global trade.

What, global trade? You little Englander.

Surely, all the EU have to do to get around this, is charge an extra tax on non-straight bananas.

I've seen several TV slots about this. One said that our old colonies, eg the caribbean, do less harm to their environment by producing these bananas than do the S. USA countries, eg costa Rica.

Therefore, I think we should keep it.

The poor, Spanish, S USA countries' peoples should all return to Spain to live. All EU countries' populations are lowering, anyway, so this will help them to recoup their numbers!

(I was only being silly and misreading mkpdavies' comments)

The EU constitution, though rejected still suposedly based on the aims and goals of the EU, says that the EU shall pursue policies in order to 'encourage the integration of all countries INTO phpbb_the world economy, including through the progressive abolition of restrictions on international trade'

By the way, by S USA, do you mean Texas?
