Default French President Chirac may face new investigation

France’s President Chirac – still licking his wounds after losing the referendum he called on the EU Constitution and on failing to secure the Paris Olympic bid – may face a new investigation instigated by the Paris Public Prosecutor.

President Chirac (the former Mayor of Paris) has learnt that a report was handed to the Paris Public Prosecutor on 17.7.2005 which appears to imply that he may have made at least one free trip with the aerplane taxi company Euralair.

Euralair (which is owned by a close ally to President Chirac) claims that President Chirac paid for journeys both before and since he became Head of State. But there is the suggestion that at least one journey may have been made without money being paid.

Mr. Chirac is immune from prosecution whilst in office. He is presently behind in opinion polls. His stated intention is to run again for the Presidency in 2007, but France’s Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy (50), is also interested in being the candidate for the mainstream right.

The Public Prosecutor in Paris must determine if there is enough evidence for the matter’s referral to an independent magistrate for investigation.

Also,I believe that after the present term of Chiracs office ends he can be charged over misdirecting funds to his Party. The charges have been held in limbo while he is President of France.

Bluemerle is just starting out
Default

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror
alert level from Run to Hide.

The only two higher levels in France are Surrender and Collaborate.
The rise was precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France's
white flag factory, effectively paralysing their military.
