Default Farmers bitter over EU sugar plan

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4694323.stm

Quote:
Thousands of sugar beet growers have staged a rally in Brussels to protest against plans to reform the EU's 40-year-old sugar production policies.
Under the European Commission's proposal, the current guaranteed price for sugar will be cut by up to 39% over two years, starting in 2007.
Did anyone see this lot on T.V. What a bunch of overpampered primadonas they were! They have had the easy life for years, not having to worry about anything, as the EU subsidised them to death. Each of them were big fat and had rosy red cheeks. The good life for sure!

It's going to take a long time to get these lumps off the gravy train.

No, but I saw a report about French farmers on the Beeb a while back. They were moaning about how hard done to they were ("we're on the poverty line, we can't afford to carry on") whilst standing in front of two new expensive tractors.

I cast my mind back to Falmer Palmer's ("get orrf maa laaaand!") barn full of Rollers paid for by subsidies and laughed. A lot.
