Default EU legislators want Communist symbols banned

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl.../International/

Quote:
Brussels — A group of conservative European Union legislators from eastern Europe called Thursday for a ban on Communist symbols, including the red star and the hammer and sickle, to match a proposed EU ban on the Nazi swastika.

The group from Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic said the Communist symbols should be included in any ban because of the suffering caused by Soviet-backed regimes in eastern Europe.

“We would like to have an equal treatment of the other evil totalitarian regime of the communist system,” said Jozsef Szajer, a Hungarian member of the European Parliament.
Welcome to the world of farce that is the EU.

When are UKIP going to go and ask for the EU flag to be banned like I asked. Turn this INTO phpbb_the biggest joke ever, other than the EU itself!

If they progress this they'll want to ban every coat of arms. Because at some point somebody has suffered at the hands of somebody else.

I bet they wouldn't dare suggest banning the national flag of Rwanda or Zimbabwe

Communist symbols make sense if anything does - communism has, worldwide, killed an order of magnitude more people than Naziism.

It's probably not really meant as such, though. Rather, it looks to me like a blocking manoever. The people who want the swastika banned will have to back down, because the EU is filthy swarming with communists, and they'll never stand still for having their own symbols banned.
