Default We back Britain joining Nafta, says US senator

http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a39637c954379.htm

Quote:
DOORS would be open in Washington to admit Britain to the North American free trade block "in a matter of a week" of an application being made, a senior senator promised yesterday.
Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on International Trade, said that the "special relationship" between the US and Britain was taken so seriously across the Atlantic that a British request to join the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) would be treated differently "from any other trade agreement" under negotiation.
So then. Why didn't we do this? No having to join the currency, no having to give powers away, yet we could have had preferential access to market that frankly whips the single market.

Why didn't we do it?

Probably because the EU wouldn't let us!

What can the EU do if we dump the government and take matters INTO phpbb_our own hands and join NAFTA?

EU and whose army?

Come on let's consider it, it's not our government anymore anyway.

I'm not sure teh USA would take my application to join Nafta seriously. I would happily join a similar European scheme of free trade at the same time. This is the real issue, why do we have to give away contol of our country for a glorified free trade agreement!
