We hear a lot about European Law and how it affects all of us, but do people really know the laws apart from the obvious ones like weights and measures.
So I would like to do a list of one-liners that I can use campaigning or drop out in general conversations. It would help if people had the directive/regulation number it sounds more official then. E.g. Do you know that under European law directive (don’t know it) as from the 1/01/05 it will be illegal for you to fit an outside light on your house. Do you know that under European law directive (don’t know it) as from the 1/01/06 all new wiring must conform to the European colours and it will be illegal to use the old red black and green/yellow wires So if you know any simple one-liners like those listed I will compile a list and post it here for everyone to use |

HSE Safety warning: BS EN 353-1 2002 Will require height danger warnings for mountains. Complaints may alter the actual wording, but don't hold your breath

Why not keep it simple.
About 70% of laws in this country are because of EU influence. They affect evry area of law in this country. EU law is superior to UK national law. UK law is only made in a way that EU law allows it to. Who do you want to make the laws of this country? British politicians or politicians from other countries? Just have one good example from each policy area to back up your argument. eg British fishing decimated because the UK was told we couldn't make laws to protect our fishing stocks. |

BS EN 353-1 2002, according to the link mentioned, seems to refer to "fall arrest equipment usually found attached to or integrated in fixed ladders on permanent structures" - unless I have missed something it does not seem to mention mountains.
There is a directive which covers working at height, but this is part of the workplace legislation and would not, as far as I know, apply to mountains. |
