EU Refurbishes Livningstone Museum

THE European Union (EU) has refurbished the Livingstone Museum at a cost of about $ 476,000 in readiness for the "Visit Zambia Campaign 2005", National Museums Board executive secretary Dr Francis Musonda said yesterday.

Other museums will also be improved on, depending on their submissions to the board. Most of the funding for the rehabilitation of museums is being provided by the EU and NORAD," he said.

Museums to increase Tourism eh? Not that the half empty ones we have here then.

Not sure this is what I have in mind, when I think of aid to Africa.

Can you believe it 30,000 a day dying from starvation and disease and we (Europe) spend money on museums bloody beggars belief. When “and it is when not if” we come out of Europe we can give aid to country’s stipulating where it is spent, on the people.

They will argue that these Museums will bring in Tourists, which will increase long term aid.

I can think of better things, that will bring in more tourists who will spend more money.

Museums are a nice extra, but they will not bring in the crowds!
